Anita F. Mathieu
Leominster, MA – Anita Mathieu of Fitchburg MA passed away in Westminster at the age of 92.

Mathieu was born on April 16,1931 in Presque Isle Maine, to the late Roy Farrell and Alma Deveau. the 5th in a large family of nine children. Her early years were spent in Van Buren, Maine, with a move later to Oakland where she attended Stephens High School and graduated, lettering in Basketball.

Mathieu moved to Fitchburg MA in 1965.  She was a dynamo, and was a confidant, dear friend, and support system for everyone who passed through her door. In addition to her generosity of spirit, Mathieu spent much of her life volunteering with and supporting organizations close to her heart.  She was the Burbank Hospital Fair Chairman in 1970, on the Home Health Aid Board and a soccer coach for Applewild School.

Those lucky enough to be brought into Anita’s world will remember her unmatched warmth and generosity, great sense of style, and quick wit. She was a phenomenal cook, the ultimate hostess, loved to travel, and she loved soap operas. She was a great gardener, a voracious reader of mysteries, a caring friend, and a loving mother and grandmother and great grandmother.

Predeceased by her beloved husband of 37 years, Maurice D. Mathieu, who suffered an early death in 1990. Mathieu is survived by her daughter, Rachel Roy, son-in-law Larry Roy of Turners Falls, MA, and their children, Ian Roy, and Michelle Premo and her husband Colin of Claremont, NH, her son, Stephen Mathieu and his wife, Jean of Manchester NH, and Steve’s three children, Victoria Heuschneider and her husband Will, Andrew Mathieu and his wife Ashley, and Jonathan Mathieu, her son Joseph Mathieu of Lunenberg, MA and his children, Nicole Mathieu-Manigat and her husband Ali Manigat, and Joshua Mathieu and his wife Kaylee, her son, Bruce Mathieu and his wife, Kristin of Westminster, MA.  And their son, Jackson Mathieu.  Anita had six great grandchildren, Connor and Kyle Premo, Liam, Leon and Levi Mathieu, and Camile Manigat.  She also leaves her sole remaining sister, Sadie Belliveau of Denton TX, along with many nieces and nephews.

Anita gave so much of herself to the world in her daily life. Her lively personality and great sense of humor brought joy to so many. Everything is a little less fun today without her.  If you were fortunate enough to be touched by her, please know that her family’s hearts are with you.
