Arthur was born on September 16, 1946, in Fitchburg, MA, the son of the late Arthur L. Destroismaisons and Lorraine (Bouvier) Destroismaisons. After graduating from Fitchburg High School, class of 1964, Arthur enlisted in the United States Navy and was a Vietnam veteran.
Following his service in the Navy, Arthur returned to civilian life and committed 35 years to public service as a police officer with the Fitchburg Police Department. Arthur served with distinction and retired from the department in 2004. His badge and his service meant more than a career, they were a symbol of his deep-rooted commitment to his community and to helping others.
Arthur shared his life with his devoted wife, the late Kathleen Destroismaisons, with whom he spent 50 years of marriage before her passing in 2019. Together, they built a loving home filled with laughter, family gatherings, and countless cherished memories. Life beyond his uniform was just as full. He had a big personality and an even bigger heart. He loved the music of the 1960s and was a lifelong car enthusiast who appreciated both classic cars and new models alike. Beach visits were among his favorite pastimes, especially during trips to North Carolina to visit his grandchildren. He also held a special fondness for the Maine and New Hampshire coasts, where he created many happy memories with family and friends. He will be remembered for his warmth, his laughter, and the way he could talk to anyone. Whether sharing a joke, offering help, or grilling the perfect medium-rare steak for those he loved, he built bonds and memories that will last long after he’s gone.
Arthur leaves behind two daughters, Cheryl Allen and her husband Paul of Wilmington, NC, and Michelle Andrews and her husband John of New Hill, NC; four grandchildren, Gabrielle Allen-Destroismaisons of High Point, NC, Stella Allen of Wilmington, NC, and Lilly and Dylan Andrews of New Hill, NC; two brothers, Mark Destroismaisons and Alan Destroismaisons and his wife Sandy; and a sister, Nancy Niemi and her husband Anthony, as well as several nieces and nephews. Arthur was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Destroismaisons.
While we will deeply miss him, we also take comfort in knowing that his spirit, his love of life and service, and his legacy will live on in everyone who knew him.
