Lunenburg

Carl Wayne Beckner of Lunenburg, Massachusetts, passed away on May 30, 2025. He was 83 years old. Born in Chicago, in 1941, Wayne had a love of music from an early age. He played in many musical groups in the central Massachusetts area and had hits in the Midwest with remakes of "Midnight Hour" and "Romeo and Juliet" as the frontman for Michael and the Messagers in the 1960's. When Wayne moved back to Massachusetts in the late 1960's, he continued to play with other musicians in multiple bands and as a solo performer.

Before he moved back to Massachusetts, he had a religious experience which left him wanting to know more about Jesus and his teachings. He eventually became a born again Christian and spent many years traveling the United States and Mexico preaching the word of Jesus.

When he came back and settled in Lunenburg, he decided to bring his love of the Lord and his love of music together to create "Spent Sprocket" a CD of original songs about his love of Jesus. Local musicians gave their time to what is truly a culmination of - and a beautiful tribute to his life's work.

He is survived by his brother, Gary E. Beckner, and his wife Susan Spielmann Beckner of Park Ridge, Illinois as well as his sister, Cynthia Hahn, and her husband David Cowan of Washoe Valley, Nevada. Most importantly, he leaves behind many musicians and fellowship people whom he inspired throughout his life as a mentor and caring friend.

Services will be held at the Horizon Christian Fellowship in Fitchburg at a future date.

Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg, has been entrusted with his care.
