Charles Joseph Kornik, Jr.

Charles "Chuck" J. Kornik, 79 of Fitchburg, passed away on February 23, 2024, at Sterling Healthcare, in Sterling, MA, surrounded by those he loved. He leaves his beloved wife Charlene (Houlihan) Kornik. He lived in Leominster for the previous 60 years of his life.

Chuck is also survived by his sons, Michael, Peter and his wife Annette, his daughter Jennifer Sheldon, and her husband William, and by his son-in-law, John Bangrazi, and his wife Krista; his grandchildren, Alex Kornik, Olivia Kornik, Erika Kornik, Victoria Bianco, William Sheldon, Vincent Bangrazi, Louis Bangrazi, and Jacob Kornik; and one great-granddaughter, Hailey Hutchinson.

He is predeceased by his daughter, Angela Bangrazi, his wife of 47 years, Rosemary (DiRusso) Kornik, his brother David Kornik in 2021, and his mother and stepfather.

Chuck was a 1962 graduate of Leominster High School. He earned his bachelor's degree from Fitchburg State College in 1966, and a master's from Fitchburg State College in 1975. 

He began his professional career as a high school teacher in Arlington, MA, and then in 1975 designed and started a volunteer program at Leominster High School (MaxEd). For the last 26+ years of his professional career, he was the Administrator of Academic Programs at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, retiring in 2016. In addition, Chuck was a timer for WPI football, men's and women's basketball, and numerous MIAA high school district playoff games.  
For over 30 years, Chuck was a certified baseball umpire, and a member of the North Central Massachusetts Baseball Association, Including terms as vice-president, president, secretary/treasurer, and trainer of new umpires.

Calling hours for Chuck will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg, MA 01420.  Followed by a funeral service at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, it is Chuck's wish that remembrance donations be made to the charity of your choice.
