Charlotte Beer Cassano died Feb 19, 2015 with her family by her side.

She was born to the late Alverne P. Beer and Maude Dobson Wilker on July 14, 1930 in Fitchburg MA.

She leaves her husband Edwin J. Cassano from Lunenburg, daughters Dianne Wood from Indiana, Dale Erskine and her husband Gerry from Lunenburg, Daryll Cossi and her husband Stephen from Winchendon, a son John Bennett (Jay) and his wife Maureen from Belmont, beloved step children Dean Cassano and wife Eva, from Florida, Stephanie Cassano and husband Alfred Crocker of Ashby, Tonya Bartholemay and husband Tocker from Florida, two sisters Betty Cichy of Lancaster and Patricia Jennings of Maryland, twelve grandchildren and eleven great grand children.

Charlotte grew up in West Fitchburg and graduated from Fitchburg High, the class of 48’ – achieving the “Gold F” award for academic excellence. She attended the Burbank Nursing School before marrying John Q. Bennett, leaving school to have 4 children. With children old enough to walk to and from school, Charlotte returned to Burbank Hospital where she worked as Director of Volunteers from the mid 60’s through the mid 70’s. She also served as Chairman of the Burbank Hospital Fair. In 1968 she re-married to Edwin Cassano and they moved from Ashby to Lunenburg, MA to raise the extended family, enjoying 46 years of marriage. Charlotte worked along side her daughter Dale at the Hearts & Hands Gift Shop in Lunenburg, where her tasteful eye was reflected on the colorful store shelves that changed with each season.

Charlotte loved the coast of Maine and returned each summer to a small cottage on Ocean Point in Boothbay that she and Ed enjoyed with friends and family. Char and Ed had a special knack for befriending the local handymen who would return year after year for a cold drink and a laugh on the deck. In retirement Char and Ed enjoyed numerous winter timeshare weeks in Estero Island and Sebastian Florida, reuniting each year with friends from all over. Charlotte was a member of Faith United Church in Fitchburg, and later become a devoted member of the Whalom Kingdom Hall where she gained much comfort and strength. Shy and small in stature, Charlotte will be lovingly remembered for her cheerful welcoming nature, beautiful warm smile, nonjudgmental listening skills, and her mindful and caring responses.
