Christine’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 14, at 11 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of 1319 Main Street. Calling hours will be held at the church from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning, immediately preceding the service, after which interment will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of 1319 Main Street, Fitchburg, Mass. 01420. FITCHBURG — Christine A. Nikitas, 95, of Fitchburg, Mass., passed away peacefully on October 8, 2015, at The Highlands Nursing

Home.Christine was born in Burlington, Vermont on February 4, 1920 to the late Nicholas M. and Antonia (Ladas) Nikitas. A member of the Class of 1938 Fitchburg High School, Christine went on to graduate from the New England Conservatory of Music, and later received an M.A. from Boston University. First teaching for two years in Patchogue, New York, Christine spent the remainder of her career as a music educator in the public school system of Newton, Massachusetts, in which she employed the noted Suzuki Method of violin training. Serving for several years as the choir director at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of New England in Boston, Christine also taught music at the Hellenic College Holy Cross Theological Seminary of Brookline, Mass.A Fulbright Scholar, Christine spent a year in Athens, Greece, both studying Byzantine Music and cultivating what would become a lifelong love for travel–through which she made many friends in the United States and Europe

alike.Predeceased by her brother, Marines N. Nikitas, also of Fitchburg, Christine is survived by her sisters, Dorothy T. Nikitas of Fitchburg and Demetra N. Avdoulos of Glastonbury, Conn.; a niece, Christina A. Nikitas of Woburn, Mass.; nephews, Michael S. Avdoulos, also of Glastonbury, and Nicholas M. Nikitas, and his wife, Joanne, of Plymouth, Mass.; and a great nephew, Maximos N.
