David Fredette, 59, passed away on June 19, 2026. He was born on October 4, 1966, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, where he spent most of his life. For the past ten years, he has made his home in Gardner.
David had a gift for connecting with people. He never met a stranger and was happiest when talking with friends, family, neighbors, and anyone he met along the way. Many of those connections became close and lasting friendships that meant a great deal to him. In his younger years, he could often be found walking throughout Fitchburg, a city where he seemed to know everyone and where everyone seemed to know him. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a remarkable memory, and a way of making people feel remembered and welcomed.
David enjoyed the outdoors and proudly thought of himself as a “mountain man.” He cared deeply for animals and had fond memories of time spent at his grandparents’ camps on Wyman’s Pond, where he enjoyed swimming, boating, fishing, and time with family. He also treasured the friendships and activities he found through his day program at Seven Hills in Devens, where he spent time with friends and learned about new things. He looked forward to Fridays at the Beacon of Hope, another place where he shared laughter, friendship, and community.
David was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Sheila (LaFortune) Fredette. He is survived by his brother, Andre Fredette, and his wife, Nancy, and their children, Jennifer, Ryan, and Rae; his sister, Suzanne Fredette Lucas, her daughter, Sage (Lucas) Garcia, and Sage’s husband, Chris Garcia; his aunt, Rene LaFortune; and many cousins and friends.
David will be remembered for his warmth, humor, remarkable memory, friendliness, and the simple, genuine joy he brought to the people who knew him.
David’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 79 Cross Street, Gardner, MA 01440.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in David’s memory to Beacon of Hope Community Services, Inc. at beaconofhopema.org.
