David J. Hilow, born on February 10, 1936, in Winchendon, Massachusetts, was called home on November 6, 2026, at the age of 90, following a brief illness. He was reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife of 55 years, C. Pauline (Levesque) Hilow.
Son of Said and Shefake (Aziz) Hilow, David is predeceased by them and one brother Mobark, his sisters Marion, Gemili, Theresa, and Emily, all of Winchendon, as well as his precious grandson Michael E. Hilow, and many brothers- and sisters-in-law.
David’s family was the most important part of his life and a source of great pride for him. He is survived by his son Larry D. Hilow of Fitchburg, MA, his daughter Judy A. Khallady and her husband Tibary of Leominster, MA and four grandchildren—Stephanie L. Hilow and her wife Brianna M. (Vignone) Hilow of Milford, MA, Daniel J. Hilow of Leicester, MA, Sarah H. Khallady and Zachary H. Khallady both of Leominster. Also, one brother John S. Hilow and his wife Louise of Keene, NH, one sister-in-law Rachel (Levesque) Mangiacotti of Leominster, and many nieces and nephews.
David served his country aboard the U.S.S. Midway CVA 41 as a Machinist’s Mate 3rd Class in the United States Navy and was a veteran of The Korean War. He later worked for most of his career as a printer of books at the Colonial Press in Clinton, MA. Upon his retirement, he and Pauline traveled extensively visiting Alaska, Canada, France, Morocco, and completed a cross country tour of the United States. He was a wealth of knowledge, especially when it came to history and current events. He often engaged in lengthy discussions with his children and grandchildren regarding other such topics as the military, politics, science, travel, fishing, food, healthcare, and his fear of technology and AI. He had a hysterical sense of humor despite his stoic appearance and kept his family laughing until the final moments of his life. That is what they will miss most.
David was an avid gardener and was known as “the man with the garden” at the end of Argentine Street in the home where he and Pauline raised their family and he lived for 45 years. He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and a long time devoted parishioner of Holy Family of Nazareth Church. He developed a sincere fondness for Rev. Jose Rodriguez and recently referred to him as the “Master” of his vocation.
David had a generous and kind heart, caring for his wife and family until the very end. He loved the Red Sox, Sunday dinner and football with his family, homemade apple pie, beans and hot dogs, and a good martini. He will be missed but celebrated by his family for all eternity.
