It is with great sadness that the family of David (Dave) Wayne Roberts shares the peaceful and courageous passing on February 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on May 10, 1956, in Portland, Oregon. He was the beloved son of Richard and Lillian (McMeneman) Roberts, who predeceased him.
Dave spent his childhood in Cambridge and Brockton, Massachusetts. He made his home in Fitchburg after marrying his wife Paula (Borg), building deep roots and lasting friendships, while raising their family there. For more than a year, Dave bravely faced pancreatic cancer with dignity, hope, and quiet resilience, reflecting the strength with which he lived his life. Throughout his illness, he remained a steady and dependable presence and a source of comfort and encouragement to those around him.
Dave was known for his kind heart, gentle humor, and unwavering devotion to his family. He especially cherished his role as a father and grandfather. He found immense joy in time spent with his grandchildren, Mateo and Isla Rose Roberts. Family was always at the center of his life.
As a registered nurse, Dave devoted his career to caring for others, offering compassion and comfort across many areas of healthcare. He proudly served his country as a United States Air Force veteran, as a Medic, and was an honor graduate of basic training. He was a graduate of Fitchburg State University, Quinsigamond Community College, and Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado.
Service and community were deeply important to Dave. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, was a member of the American Legion and the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity, served as a dedicated coach for Fitchburg Youth Soccer, and generously gave his time to the Boy Scouts of America. He was an active member and lector of the Madonna of the Holy Rosary Parish in Fitchburg. In his younger years, Dave enjoyed outdoor pursuits including rock climbing, bicycle racing, and backpacking. He was a creative and talented woodworker and could fix and build most anything. Dave also found great enjoyment in gardening, traveling, antique cars, and especially reading and writing science fiction, a lifelong interest that fueled his imagination.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Paula (Borg); his beloved sons, Benjamin and Nicholas; his lovely daughter-in-law, Cristina; his cherished grandchildren, Mateo and Isla Rose; his brother, Steve, and wife, Iris. He had a special bond with his brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends, whose lives were enriched by his kindness and steady presence.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Dave’s life on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg, Massachusetts, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 10 Church Street, Westminster, MA.
