Diane Cauley Crowley

May 17, 1954 — May 19, 2023

Diane Cauley Crowley, 69, a resident of Fitchburg, MA, passed away on May 19, 2023, following a battle with cancer. She was born on May 17, 1954, in Shirley (Fort Devens), MA, to the late Robert Nelson Cauley and Marjorie Pelter Cauley.

The daughter of a career military man, she spent much of her childhood living in foreign countries such as Germany and Turkey, in addition to US military bases. Upon her father's retirement, the family made their home in Leominster, which Diane warmly considered her hometown.

Diane was a proud graduate of Leominster High School's Class of 1972 and furthered her education at Fitchburg State College, the University of Phoenix, and Colorado State University.

In 1975, Diane married Bruce Landry and moved to Greenfield, MA, where they celebrated the birth of their son, Jason Landry. Nearly two decades later, Diane met and married Wayne Wentworth while both were working at the Yankee Atomic Nuclear Plant. The couple spent the next 20 years working and traveling together at the Los Alamos Nuclear Testing Facility and other Department of Energy (DOE) sites throughout the Southwest.

She served as a Quality Assurance Engineer/Manager, conducting nuclear criticality safety research and nuclear emergency response, and provided support for other government agencies requiring hands-on access to significant quantities of nuclear material in various configurations.

After Wayne's unexpected passing from cancer in 2016, Diane retired and returned to Massachusetts, where she lived near her son Jason, his wife Wendy, and her three young grandsons, Jackson, Joshua, and Alex. This was a wonderful time in her life.

In 2021, during the 50th Class Reunion of Leominster High School, Diane reconnected with an old and dear classmate, John M Crowley, whom she had dated in high school. They quickly found they shared many interests and planned a future together.

Despite her cancer diagnosis a few months later, their relationship remained steadfast, and they married as previously planned in September 2022. John's unwavering care and devotion during the remaining months of her life were deeply appreciated by Diane's family and friends, allowing her to remain at home peacefully, as she desired, until her passing.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the remarkable oncology and pain management staff at Dana Faber Cancer for their expert care that included the very latest in treatment options during her illness.

Diane was predeceased by her infant daughter Michelle Landry, father Robert Cauley, late husband Wayne Wentworth, and Jason’s father Bruce Landry. She is survived by her mother Marjorie Cauley, husband John Crowley, son Jason Landry and wife Wendy, grandchildren Jackson, Joshua, and Alexander Landry, and six siblings, including five brothers Gerald Cauley, Donald Cauley, Robert Cauley, Jr., William Cauley, Thomas Cauley, and one sister Patricia Dee, and their spouses. She also leaves behind numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
