Fitchburg – It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Sargent Donald Edward “Skip” Mattson, Jr., 70 on January 4, 2022.
He was born on November 25, 1951, in Leominster, a son of the late Donald E. and Ethel (Ferguson) Mattson. He graduated from North Middlesex Regional High School in 1969. Skip was drafted into the US Air Force, where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War; he was stationed in Thailand until his honorable discharge in 1974. He continued to serve in the US Army Reserves until 1980.
Skip worked at Simonds Saw and Steel and General Electric between 1978-2007. He was also part of the pit crew for the Fuller Brothers and the Polar Beverages team.
He is survived by his two children, Nicole Mattson and Benjamin Mattson; a grandson Jason O’harian; siblings, Brian Mattson, Gary Mattson, and Debbie Mattson Lee; several nieces and nephews.
