FITCHBURG — Elisabeth A. (Bochorak) Carter, 87, of Fitchburg, died suddenly of natural causes on Thursday December 2, 2021 in the Heywood Hospital in Gardner. She was born in Marish-Neustadt, Czechoslovakia, on November 29, 1934, the daughter of the late Joseph and Aurelia Bochorak. A Holocaust survivor, she met her husband of 57 years, the late Donald Porter Carter, Sr while he was serving in Germany at the end of World War II. She cared deeply for her family and neighbors. She regularly brought meals to the elderly friends (and sometimes snuck in a German beer for her closest friend Mitzi). And she always ensured that every person who crossed her threshold was happy, well fed, and they left with a bag full of her famous knitted slippers. Oma was an avid gardener and kept the birds, deer, racoons, and the occasional turkey in her yard well fed. Her colorful yard of flowers delighted the cars driving by on South Street. She leaves behind eight children, Elly M. Dato, Donald P. Carter, Jr., Elisabeth M. Calloway and her partner Joseph Richardson, Debra A. Carter, Evelyn G. Carter, Brenda J. Simmons and her husband, Barry, Masie I. Brown and her husband, Charles Brown, and William C. Carter; nine grandchildren, Leslie A. Cosme, Trista R. Harris, Tanya M. (Dato) Vaughn, Serena A. Calloway, Ashley E. Possemato, Angela N. Gorky,Barry E. Simmons, Jr., Tiffany C.E. Carter, Nicholas L. Ridgel; eleven great-grandchildren, Jordan W. Cosme, Nia I. Harris, Marcus A. Harris, Nicco W. Cosme, Brandon C. Brown, Illiana A.E. Thayer, Isaiah R. Vaughn, Nya A. Shaw, David C. Vaughn, Malia M. Possemato, and soon to be born Nina M. Gorky. She joins in heaven her husband, Rev. Donald Porter Carter, Sr, her daughter, Ethel A. Carter, a brother, Joseph and sister Martha (Bochorak) Fisher.
