Francis X. Babineau, Dmd

October 23, 1920 — January 17, 2019

Visitation will be at Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg, MA on Thursday January 24th from 4-7 PM.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday, January 25th at St. Joseph’s Church, 49 Woodland St., Fitchburg, MA, followed by Interment with military honors at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dr. Babineau’s memory may be made to either the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 49 Woodland St., Fitchburg, MA 01420 or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 42 Green St., Newburyport, MA 01950.



 

Francis X. Babineau, DMD of West Newbury, MA entered into eternal rest on January 17, 2019.

Dr. Babineau was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Anita (Gendron) Babineau.

Dr. Babineau was born on 10/23/20 in Fitchburg, MA to Alphee and Alvida (Arsenault) Babineau.  He attended schools both in Fitchburg, MA and Concord, NH, where he spent his childhood years.  He went on to graduate cum laude from Assumption College in three years, after having enlisted and being called to duty in the US Naval Air Corps during WWII. He served in the Fifth Fleet as a pilot on the USS Baltimore and was honorably discharged from active duty in 1946.  He was awarded five Battle Stars during his time in the military.  He also had the honor of being selected as the test pilot for the first OS2U Jet-Assisted open sea take-off.

After WWII, he attended Tufts University Dental School. He served the greater Leominster area in his private practice until his retirement in 1985.  Dr. Babineau was very active in the Mass. Dental Society, having served as the Presidents of the Wachusett District Dental Society and the N.E. Franco-American Association.  He also served as the Editor of both the Mass. Dental Society Journal and the Wachusett District Journal.  Additionally, Dr. Babineau was active in his church and was a founding member of the first Worcester Diocesan CCD Board.

In his leisure time he enjoyed golf, woodworking, opera, travelling with his loving and devoted wife, Anita, and spending time with family.

He is survived by five children: Cheryl Alexander (and husband Philip) of King City, Oregon; Gerard Babineau of Fitchburg; Joan Babineau of McCall, Idaho; Dennis Babineau (and partner Kevin Gray) of Riggins, Idaho; and Anne Puricelli (and husband William) of West Newbury, MA. He also leaves two grandchildren: Dr. Nicole Connors Smith of Lake Oswego, OR and Dr. James Connors II of Sacramento, CA, and two precious great-grandtwins, Parker and Sydney Smith.  Dr. Babineau also leaves a sister, Lucille Gaudet and three brothers, Normand Babineau, Dr. T. Arthur Babineau and Dr. J. Paul Babineau.

In addition to his wife, Anita, Dr. Babineau was preceded in death by his brothers Raymond Babineau and Dr. Robert Babineau, and his sisters Juliette Roy, Louise Lemay and Irene Quintal.
