John S. Lukas

September 6, 1923 — January 30, 2022

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 12, in the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m.  A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s name to the Fitchburg High School Art Department.



John S. Lukas, 98, formerly of Fitchburg, passed away on January 30, 2022 in Sarasota, FL.

John was born in Lodi, NJ on September 6, 1923, a son of the late John G. and Anna P. (Subock) Lukaszewicz.  He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Lodi, NJ and went on to proudly serve his country in the US Army during WWII, specifically The Battle of Saint-Lo.  After his honorable discharge, he attended and graduated from Bergen Junior College, the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts, and New York University, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree.

John spent his career at Fitchburg High School as an Art teacher, retiring after 35 years. He also instructed adult education in oil painting.  He was a member of the Leominster Art Association.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.  His hobbies included playing golf, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

John is survived by his children, John S. “Jack” Lukas and his wife Debbie of Plainville, Jeffrey D. Lukas and his wife Caryn of Bradenton, FL, William R. Lukas and his wife Margie of Dracut, Lauren Hunnewell and her husband Frank of Harvard; grandchildren, Matthew and his wife Kiley, Garrett and his wife Mel, Bryan Lukas, Elizabeth Lukas and Jack Hunnewell; great-granddaughter Milaina and great-grandsons Easton, Everett and Patrick.

He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy (Sikora) Lukas in 2013, as well as his sisters Vera, Edna and Anna and his brother Walter.
