Emblem

In loving memory of John B. Townsend III, affectionately known as Pastor John, whose life beautifully exemplified the virtues of dedication, generosity, love, and loyalty. Born on October 10, 1948, in Portland, Maine, USA, he made an indelible impact on all who knew him until his departure on February 8, 2024. As his children, we are honored to share his remarkable story.

John was a man of many talents and interests, ranging from researching family ancestry, tinkering with computers, gaming, to enjoying music and singing. His dedication saw him ascend from a janitor to a Network Manager for the E911 System at New England Telephone, diligently serving during the Vietnam War and later retiring from Verizon. In retirement, he started JUPETO Enterprises, a successful Computer Networking Business. Yet, he found his true satisfaction when he answered the call to become a minister, preacher, and chaplain of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, ordained as an Elder for the Church of the Nazarene in 2007. His faith was his compass, guiding him through life's storms and celebrations. As stated in the Book of John 15:13, "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends," John lived this verse, generously sharing God's love and message of salvation with all.

Pastor John found immense joy in his family. Survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Linda, his daughter, Julie Anne, his devoted son, Peter, and his loving wife, Jennifer. John was a steadfast beacon of love and loyalty. He was also a cherished brother of Richard, Lee (Scott), Robert (Ursula), Dr. James D'Alfonso (Anthony), and Kerry. He was a proud uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, affectionately known as Papa, Grandpa, and Pop-Pop. He gathered his many "adopted" grandchildren and great-grandchildren in his arms and held them close to his heart, treasuring every moment and every hug. He was preceded in death by his father, John Jr., mother, Barbara, step-parents, and beloved sisters, Veronica and Joan. His legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire generations to come.

To celebrate and honor the life of John B. Townsend III, we invite you to share your memories and upload photos to his memorial page. May his life's story comfort us and remind us of the impact one dedicated, generous, loving, and loyal individual can make. As John would often say, "The only thing that will last forever is what we do for Christ." Let us continue to honor his memory by living out our faith as he did.
