HAVERTY — The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Tuesday, October 13 with a Mass in Saint Bernard’s Church, 333 Mechanic St., at 12:00 Noon. Burial will follow in Saint Bernard’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-7 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Fitchburg Fire Fighters Relief Association, 33 North Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420 or The Catholic TV Network, P.O. Box 9196, Watertown, MA 02471.



FITCHBURG — Joseph C. Haverty, 91, of Fitchburg, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015 in Leominster Hospital.

Joseph was born in Fitchburg on September 27, 1924, a son of the late Christopher and Loretta (McNamara) Haverty. He graduated from Saint Bernard’s High School, where he was captain of the football team and was an avid football fan his whole life. Joe proudly served his country during WWII in the Navy. His ship was the USS Dayton.In 1947, he was appointed to the Fitchburg Fire Department. Joseph earned the rank of Lieutenant in 1952, Captain in 1968, and retired as acting Deputy Chief in 1978.He was a lifelong member of Saint Bernard’s Parish in Fitchburg. Joseph was very proud of his family, whom he loved very much.

He leaves his wife of 66 years Eleanor (Cunningham) Haverty of Fitchburg; children, Joseph C. Haverty, Jr., of Fitchburg, John Haverty and his wife, Lisa of Spencer, Patrick Haverty and his wife, Susan of Fitchburg, Christine Stock of Westwood, Judy Haverty and her husband, David LeVangie of Fitchburg; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.Joseph was predeceased by his brother, John G. Haverty in 2014.The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Wilson and the doctors, nurses, and staff in the CCU at Leominster Hospital for the wonderful care Joseph received.
