Joseph Rene Wysk, known affectionately to all as Joe or Poppy, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on May 27, 2025. Joe was born on February 1st, 1942, in Holyoke, Massachusetts. He was raised in Chicopee, Massachusetts graduating from Chicopee High School and later American International College. He was employed throughout his professional career at American Saw and Manufacturing Company, where he retired as a Human Resources Manager after 35 years. His good humor and genuine concern for other employees were greatly valued.
Joe was known for his kindness and quick wit, so often ready with a humorous quip to make everyone laugh. He made people feel loved, valued, and respected. He strove to always maintain a positive attitude, sharing a framed verse with family members describing how you can choose your attitude and embrace your life. His own life was a testament to the beauty of human connection and the power of humor and positivity.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joe's most cherished role was that of a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He married his soulmate and love of his life Diane (Danuta Basiak) on August 8th, 1964, and together they built a life full of love and mutual respect. Their union was blessed with two children, Christine and Mark. As a husband, Joe was devoted to Danuta, carrying her formal college photo in his wallet and referring to her as "his bride" even after 60 years of marriage. Joe is survived by his wife Danuta, his children Christine (Tom) Jacobs and Mark (Marcia) Wysk, and his grandsons Joseph, Liam, and Zackery and granddaughter Stefania, and brother-in-law Thaddeus Basiak. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Rita Wysk.
Joe enjoyed playing and watching sports, especially baseball, basketball, and golf. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics. He played many card games including cribbage and pitch, which he reveled in playing with family members and friends. In 2003, Joe and Diane bought their dream retirement home on Lake Shirley in Lunenburg where Joe was a dedicated and avid gardener, tending to his plants and flowers and riding his mower. He delighted in boating on the lake, especially watching the grandchildren take to water sports such as skiing.
