Julie Lyn Smith of Fitchburg; 49 Passed away peacefully at Brigham & Women’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family after fighting a long, uphill battle from a multitude of health conditions. She was born in Fitchburg, a daughter of the late Roger & Rita (Pirro) Smith. She is survived by her daughter Felicia Smith and her partner Floyd, her brother Ronald G. Thomas Jr. and his wife Sonya, her brother Richard A. Thomas, her sister Cynthia M. Leger and husband Thomas. She is also survived by her nephew Dylan Landry Thomas, her nieces Vanessa Burke and husband Ryan, Patience Hurley and husband Benjamin, Valerie Leger and her partner Billy and Veronica Leger. She is also survived by her grand nieces Madilyn, Emma and Isabelle Burke. Julie was a fun loving, caring and inquisitive person who kept her sense of humor and positive attitude throughout her life despite the many difficult, challenging and varied obstacles that she faced. She was a graduate of Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School, Class of 1988. She also worked as an HVAC Technician for the former Digital Corporation. She was very proud of her daughter “Fishy” while she was serving in the Peace Corps in Zambia. Julie could often be heard saying how much she missed her while she was away but fully understood that it was a sacrifice they were both willing to make in order to serve others. She will be sadly missed by her many friends and family who will cherish the memories of laughing with her, sometimes at inappropriate moments, along with her determination to overcome all that life had thrown at her with dignity and grace as well as her infectious smile and free spirit. May She Rest In Peace
