Louis Russell Cummings, known affectionately as Lou, Dad, and Papa, passed away on March 5, 2026. Born on June 11, 1966, in Rochester, NY, Lou was a vibrant soul whose light shined brightly on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a man whose adventurous spirit was only rivaled by his humble nature, proving that strength and gentleness could indeed coexist within the same heart. As an accomplished auto mechanic, he worked with meticulous precision, demonstrating his unique blend of practicality and creativity.
Lou was a man of many hobbies, each reflecting his love for the outdoors. From hiking and hunting to kayaking and fishing, he found his peace in the embrace of nature. His love for poker showcased his strategic mind and his competitive spirit, winning him several tournaments and sponsorships to play in Las Vegas. However, what truly defined Lou was his unwavering loyalty and loving nature, qualities that made him a wonderful husband, father, and friend. He served in the United States Air Force from 1984 to 1988, a testimony of his dedication to his country. His achievement of completing the Goofy Challenge in 2014, covering 39.3 miles in two days, further showcased his determination.
Lou deeply believed that "not all who wander are lost, some are following God's trail." He found solace in his faith, and he was baptized at Hope Chapel in Sterling by Pastor Steve Blumer on January 25th, 2026. He lived his life as an embodiment of this belief, finding God in the beauty of the world around him, in the laughter of his loved ones, and in the quiet moments of prayer. He was a firm believer that God could be found outside of four walls, especially in the tranquility of nature. Lou's legacy is one of love, devotion, and a life lived to the fullest. His memory serves as a beacon of hope, reminding us all that life is indeed a beautiful journey.
Lou is preceded in death by his father, Louis Henry Cummings; his grandfather, Louis Andrew Cummings; and his grandmother, Madeline Faehner - Cummings. He leaves behind a life rich with heartfelt memories and a family who cherished him; his beautiful bride Kathleen Mary (Leger) Cummings of 35 years, daughter Alyssa Yvonne (Cummings) Gray, son-in-law Travis Ansel Gray, granddaughters Madison Grace and Jillian Elise Gray. Son Louis Michael Cummings and daughter-in-law Allyson Ruth Marranzini. Along with an extended loving family including Norma Jane Leger, Lucy Ann (Leger) Gagnon and her husband Arthur Gagnon, Patrick Joseph Leger and his wife Sandra Leger, and several nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews, including his Goddaughter Tia Gagnon.
