It is with a heavy heart and great love that we bid farewell to our dear mother, Louisa Maria Costa, who peacefully departed this life on August 28, 2025 after a long battle with cancer. Born on April 2, 1938, in Ponta Delgada, Açores, Portugal, Louisa was a beacon of humility, strength, dedication, and thoughtfulness - a loving soul whose exceptional warmth and kindness will forever be celebrated and cherished.
Louisa was a woman of deep faith who found solace in daily prayers and her rosary. A devout Catholic, she truly embodied the essence of Matthew 5:5, "Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth." Her humble spirit was evident in her dedicated service as a baker at Stop n Shop until her retirement in 2007. Her culinary skills, especially her expertise in making Malassadas (Portuguese fried dough), were second to none. Louisa's love for life extended beyond her kitchen to her beautiful flower garden, skilled at needlepoint, sewing and her fondness for birds.
Louisa's life was a testament to her love for her family, which surpassed all else. She thrived on spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She looked forward to her lunch dates with granddaughter, Brianne and trips shopping at Trader Joes and the Portuguese Market. Louisa is survived by her children Daniel Costa and his wife Kelly, Christine Costa Ide and her husband, Christopher, her grandchildren Ashley Banister and husband Robert, Brianne Costa and fiancé Edward, Rachel Costa, Daniel Costa, Lauren Costa, Madison Ide and her great-grandchildren Isabel Correa, Vincent Joseph Correa, Juliana Banister, Joseph Banister, and Eva Banister. She was preceded in death by her loving spouse, Jose "Joe" Costa, and her beloved son, Joseph Costa.
Louisa was a pillar of strength, a source of wisdom, and a reservoir of love. Her legacy will forever be remembered in the hearts of her family and all who knew her. As we honor her life and cherish her memories, let us celebrate the remarkable woman Louisa Maria Costa was, a life well-lived, a love well-given.
Please share your memories of Louisa and upload photos to her memorial page. Your stories and pictures will help us all remember the special moments she shared with us.
