Winchendon – Lynn (Estes) Bessette “Chiwabiinonquay” (Strong East Wind Woman), comforted by her loving family, crossed over to her new journey on February 20, 2015.

She was born in Schenectady, New York on December 14, 1956, the daughter of the late William and Carol (Hinds) Estes. Lynn graduated from the Bromfield School in Harvard in 1974. She also attended Greenfield Community College, Mount Wachusett Community College, and the University of Massachusetts for nursing. She grew up with many animals, including horses, dogs, ferrets, tortoises, and parrots. Her love of animals drew her to working at a veterinarian’s office. She then started her own Native American Gallery called Silver Hawk in 1988. The gallery began in Ashburnham and then moved to Winchendon on 672 Spring Street, where under her care and expertise it became the largest Native American gallery in New England.

Lynn was a very talented artist who made immaculate jewelry, beading, and leatherwork. She and her husband, Roland, spent many weekends at Rendezvous events and Pow Wows. She enjoyed teaching her craft and was a mentor to so many. She always looked for ways to help family and friends, and extended kindness to all she met.

Lynn leaves behind her loving husband and soulmate of twenty two years, Roland Bessette; her loyal pet Mickey; stepsons, Darren Bessette and Ryan Bessette; beloved granddaughter, Grace Bessette; brother, Bill Estes and his wife Jackie, and their children Michaela and Connor; brother-in-law, Paul Bessette and wife Marylou; sister-in-law Jeanne Lutz and husband Donald; and many cousins, extended family, and close friends, particularly her Aunt Ruth Estes, cousin Donald Estes, his wife Lynn, and their family. She is predeceased by her parents, and her beloved pets, Pangi and Cherokee.

Calling hours will be held at Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg, on Saturday, February 28, from 1-4 pm. Services and burial will be held privately at a later date.
