Martin L. McDonald passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026 after a long and fulfilling life.
Born in Camden, New Jersey on August 9th, 1933, Marty attended St. Joseph’s Prep School and then St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a member of the Air Force Association, the American Legion, and a charter member of the New England Health and Beauty Aid Association. He worked in the health and beauty industry for over 30 years as a sales executive for Bristol Meyers Squibb. After raising their children in Cherry Hill, NJ and Foxboro, MA, Marty and his wife moved to Tampa Bay and later San Antonio, Florida where they enjoyed warm weather, golf, and visits from friends and grandchildren.
A lifelong baseball fan who grew up near Philadelphia, he recalled mowing lawns and washing cars as an adolescent to earn money to attend Phillies games after mass on Sundays. Decades later, his identity as a Massachusetts resident was cemented as he became an avid Red Sox fan. He swore he remembered every baseball player he ever watched play the game, and had fond memories of watching Ted Williams play in his prime.
His Catholic faith was the cornerstone of his life, as was his 67 year marriage with his wife, Nancy (Jacobs) McDonald. His steadfast dedication to her during her journey with Alzheimer's meant the world to his entire family.
His children and grandchildren were elated when he moved to Attleboro in 2022 after his wife’s passing to be closer to his family. He was immensely proud of his children: Nancy Roberts (Steve) of Attleboro, Gary McDonald (Cathy) of Westminster and Scott McDonald (Kathy) of Duxbury.
Martin was “Pop Pop” to his five grandchildren, Ashley Quinn (Rob), Erin Sibley (Andy), Michael Seeley (fiance Katie Storer), Frances Anne McDonald, and Kylee Nelson. He was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Maeve, Declan and Seamus Quinn, and Amelia, Teddy, and Eliza Sibley.
He was predeceased by his devoted wife, Nancy, his beloved son, Scott, and his sister, Janice Elaine Thomas. There is no doubt that there was an amazing reunion in heaven, where he and Scott are probably discussing golf right now.
A Catholic mass to celebrate Martin’s life will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Church in Westminster on Monday, February 16 at 11 o’clock.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org) or Donate Life America (donatelife.net).
