It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a remarkable woman, Mary Jane Maxfield. Mary Jane was a woman of many talents and accomplishments, with a heart full of love and compassion.
She was born on July 9, 1938, in Shirley, MA, Mary Jane spent her early life cultivating a love for beauty which led her to a fulfilling 40-year career as a hairdresser. She created beautiful styles at Ann's Beauty Shop in Shirley, Henri's School of Hair Design, and Cut & Curl in Leominster, retiring in 2000. Mary Jane was not just a hairdresser; she was a confidante, a therapist, and a friend to her clients. Beyond her career, Mary Jane was a longtime member of St. Camillus Church at St. Bernard's Parish. She found joy in knitting and crocheting, generously contributing numerous items to St. Bernard's Bazaar. Mary Jane also had a love for travel, with fond memories of trips to Aruba, Las Vegas, and Florida.
Mary Jane will be remembered for her dedication to her family, treasuring the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Robert Maxfield, whom she married on April 19, 1958. She also leaves her son Dennis and Tammy Maxfield, daughter, Carrie Barrett and her significant other, Michael McMurray; five grandchildren, Tanya Robichaud and Brent,
Dennis Maxfield, Lindsay Pandiscio and Kim, Nicholas Barrett and Jasah, and Bobby Barrett and Kim; five great-grandchildren, Aidan, Jamison, Mia and Jaeda and Blake and brother-in-law Joseph Freeman. Her parents, Ralph and Germaine Pontbriand, siblings Paul Pontbriand, Pauline Moras, Sylvia Cote, Claudette Freeman, predeceased her.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024, at 11:00 PM at St. Bernard Parish, 333 Mechanic Street, Fitchburg, Massachusetts, 01420. Following the mass, she will be laid to rest at St Bernard's Cemetery, 96 Goodrich Street, Fitchburg, Massachusetts, 01420, at 12:00 PM.
