Nancy (Plummer) Gates, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on June 21, 2026. She was born April 7, 1943, in Cordele, Georgia, and lived in Arabi, GA, until moving to Fitchburg, MA, in 1964.
She graduated from Crisp County High School in 1961 and from Fitchburg State College in 1990, graduating top of her class, summa cum laude.
She worked at the First Methodist Church and Cordele Sash, Door and Lumber Co, in GA, and worked for several central MA companies, including Independent Lock, Foster Insurance Agency, L.B. Evans, Unitil, Simplex, and Quebecor. She retired in 2008.
She was devoted to her family and community, always generous and supportive. She was a true beacon of strength and courage. Her life was full of resilience, love, and faithfulness. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Nancy is survived by her two daughters, Christina A. Gates of Fitchburg and Angela M. Godin (Michael) of Ashby, two grandchildren, Tyler Godin (Olivia) and Lauren Nott (David), a great granddaughter Penelope Nott, a sister Dorothy Walker of Statesboro GA, three nephews, David Walker, Joshua Gates (Zoraida), Steve Gates (Brenda) and a niece Carliss Posey.
She is predeceased in death by her husband of 61 years, Wayne N. Gates, who passed away April 30, 2026, and her parents, Curtis H. Plummer and Lula Jane (Collins) Plummer.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 12 pm in the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg. Burial in the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery, Winchendon, will be private.
A calling hour will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 12 pm in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to express sympathy consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Nancy’s honor.
