It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia “Pat” Thorn, 89, of Lunenburg, Massachusetts, who passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 26, 2025, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 68 years, Richard “Dick” Thorn Jr., her loving daughter Kim and husband Tommy White of Winchendon, and her beloved son Richard Thorn III of Lunenburg. Pat was a proud and adoring grandmother to Natalia and her husband, Jeffrey Chagnon, and a cherished great-grandmother to Olivia, Aubrey, Jeffrey, Aurelia, Anakin, and Nylea. Born in Rockaway, New Jersey in 1936 to John and Gertrude List, Pat grew up in Lake Hopatcong, where she shared many fond memories with her late sister Edwina (“Pinky”) and brother Robert List. It was in Lake Hopatcong that she met the love of her life, Dick, in the late 1950s. Together they built a beautiful life, moving from New Jersey to Massachusetts, where they raised their family and created a home filled with love, laughter, and creativity.
Pat had an artist’s touch and a gardener’s soul. She could most often be found outdoors among her flowers and trees, tending lovingly to her gardens that reflected her eye for beauty and her endless energy. Her home was a reflection of her talents—gracefully decorated, welcoming, and full of life year-round. A lifelong animal lover, Pat always had one (or more) “fluffy” friends by her side since the day she and Dick married in 1957. Her compassion extended to all living things, and her generosity, unwavering kindness, quick wit, and determined spirit were evident to everyone who knew her. An avid reader, Pat could often be found with a book in hand, diving into new stories and ideas. She and Dick shared a love for the ocean and spent many happy years enjoying their seasonal home in Wells, Maine, creating countless cherished memories together by the sea.
A 25-year breast cancer survivor, Pat faced every challenge in life with courage and grace. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the cancer charity of your choice or to the MSPCA, in honor of her love for animals and her fighting spirit.
