Robert E. Lane, 91, of Leominster, MA, passed peacefully surrounded by his family, Saturday April 27, 2024, at Sterling Village Nursing Home.

Robert, affectionately known to all as “Bob”, was born on July 20, 1932, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He was a man with an easy smile, baby-blue eyes, a calm manner and always ready to lend a hand.

Bob believed in working hard, living a simple, modest life and patriotism to his country.  After attending school in the Fitchburg School system, he enlisted in the Air Force to serve during the Korean War.  He was proud of his time serving his country and it was there that he learned his love of working with his hands.  Throughout his working years, he spent much of it as a laborer in the construction industry.

He had a strong faith and was a life-long member of Rollstone Congregational Church in Fitchburg.  It was through Rollstone Church that he became affiliated with Camp Wellville in Ashburnham.  He passed his love of camping and nature to his twins, Diane and Rick, spending many summers camping and sharing precious time together.

Not only was he an avid camper, he had a competitive side.  He loved competing in ping pong, bowling, pool, horseshoes and racquetball.  He followed many of the Boston sports teams and shared that love of sports with his children.

Later in life, Bob met Doris, the love of his life.  They spent 43 years married and truly were an example of what selfless true love looks like, each wanting to care for each other for a lifetime.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Doris Lane; his son, Richard Lane and his wife, Janet of Lancaster; his daughter, Diane Lane-Cormier and her husband Paul of Ashburnham; his stepdaughters, Peggy Leger, Marie Morlock and husband Bruce; his stepsons, Gary Richardson and wife Maria; and Arland Richardson and wife Maryanne; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father, Wilfred C. Lane, Sr.; mother, Evelyn Lane (Whittemore); his infant sister Eleanor; brother, Wilfred C. Lane, Jr. and his wife Joan Lane (Henrichs).

Bob's life will be honored during calling hours at Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg, Massachusetts, 01420, on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 10:00 am to 12 noon. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 pm at Forest Hill Cemetery, 115 Mount Elam Road, Fitchburg, Massachusetts, 01420.  A luncheon will follow the graveside service at Slattery’s Restaurant, 106 Lunenburg St., Fitchburg, MA 01420.
