Rodney James Bourgault

Rodney James Bourgault, fondly known as Rod to his friends and family, was a man of strong character. He passed away on September 26th, surrounded by family.

Born on January 7th, 1954, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, his life was marked by an enduring love for his family and friends, a courageous spirit, and a humble heart that won the admiration of all who knew him.

Rod's resilient nature carried him through life's ups and downs, shaping him into a pillar of strength for those around him. His life was a testament to his refreshing authenticity, and he will be dearly missed.

Rod had a successful career at Home Depot as a trainer, where he was known for his work ethic and dedication. His passion for woodworking and fishing was well known, with his captivating stories about the “one that got away” always bringing a smile to everyone's faces.

In recent years, he found joy in day trips to the beach, the Quabbin, and southern Vermont. Yet, it was his family that mattered most to him.

Rod’s love for his wife of 49 years, Celeste Rivard Bourgault, and their three children—Matthew Bourgault and his wife, Jaymie; Bethany McMahon and her husband, Anthony; and Zachary Bourgault—was at the heart of his life.

He deeply cherished his grandchildren, Emmalynne, Jackson, and Jameson, and often summed up what mattered most to him with the words, “Family is everything.”

He is also survived by his brother, Michael Bourgault. Rod held his extended family, including his in-laws, nieces, and nephews, close to his heart. He was also blessed with many dear friends whose friendship brought great happiness and meaning to his life.

Rod's legacy is one of genuine love, courage, humility, and resilience. His memory will be treasured by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Ernest Bourgault and Jeanette (Casey) Bourgault.

As we mourn the loss of Rod, we also celebrate the remarkable life he led and the countless ways he touched our lives.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Denis Church, 85 Main Street, Ashburnham, Massachusetts, on Thursday, October 8th, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Denis Cemetery.
