Stephen John Gottschalk

July 20, 1969 — December 5, 2025

Fitchburg

On December 5, 2025, Stephen John Gottschalk passed peacefully, holding the hand of his wife. Born on July 20, 1969, in Richmond, Indiana, Stephen graced this world with his presence for 56 meaningful years. A beacon of love, humor, and intelligence, he etched a place in the hearts of all who knew him. Stephen was the embodiment of kindness and thoughtfulness, always ready to lend a helping hand. His infectious sense of humor brought joy to every occasion, and his intelligence made him a force to be reckoned with during trivia nights.

Stephen had a lifelong passion for art, especially painting, and attended two years at the Cincinnati Art Academy. He created beautiful, surrealist works of art on canvas using acrylic paints, as well as many other mediums. He was an inspiration to anyone lucky enough to witness him work, and his legacy will live on through his paintings, forever to be admired. He was a man of diverse interests, from painting to assembling Lego's, from camping in the great outdoors to spending quiet nights at home watching Star Wars movies and The Price is Right. His love for cats was legendary, including the creation of a climbing structure and obstacle course in his living room with a covered bridge and hammock. But above all, Stephen was a family man, deeply devoted to his loved ones, who were the focal point of his life. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Gottschalk; his children, Eli and Alden Gottschalk; his mother, Paula Gottschalk; and his father, Stephen M. Gottschalk.

Calling hours will be held for Stephen on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.at the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg, Massachusetts, 01420. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the scholarship fund for Stephen’s children, or Neady Cats in Sterling, MA. His love and laughter will never be forgotten, and his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those he touched. We encourage all who knew Stephen to leave their treasured memories and upload photos of him to his memorial page. As we bid him farewell, let us remember Stephen not with sorrow but with the joy and love he brought into our lives.
